Best of 2016: Mehendi

This was a huge year for mehendi! Despite being a tradition that’s been around for ages and ages, mehendi got a bit of a makeover in 2016 with lots of new styles and techniques that took Indian weddings by storm. Heck, even non-Indian weddings had mehendi artists decking out their guests! Which meant for us on the Happy Shappy team, picking our favorite mehendi from the past year was pretty damn difficult — but here it is! Presenting the Best of 2016: Mehendi photographs!

Psst: Happy Shappy’s got the best Mehendi Artists at the most amazing prices –  drop us a line for a great deal!

Before the stunning mehendi turns deep crimson, it has to be applied meticulously. Which is exactly what this photo captures amazingly! We love this shot by Photoman of the “before” process. With a lotta patience and a lotta love, your mehendi’s sure to be perfect.

Ankit Goel

Two photos by Ankit Goel that are totally different from each other, but both are spectacular. The first one in black and white captures the intricate designs of the bride’s mehendi and her lehenga together. The second photograph is one of our favorite mehendi photographs of 2016 because it showcases two important elements of the bride’s home – the artwork and the wonderful swaths of light streaming in!

Camera Waale Baraati

This photograph put the focus right on the mehendi, literally speaking! Camera Waale Baraati really captured the fine art of mehendi – intricate designs, and a flawless application. Look closely for some unique motifs!

Holy henna, this is magnificent, isn’t it? We love the window pane effect of this mehendi, as well as those perfectly symmetrical peacocks adorning the bride’s ankles. Plus, the gorgeous light streaming into this photo reminds us of chilly winter mornings when mehendi is applied and left to dry and darken throughout the day.

Tuhina Chopra Photography

We really think this is one of the best mehendi looks of the year! There are so many design elements included, but they all work together and don’t overwhelm the overall feel of it. From swirls and flowers, to paisleys and even a letter (did you spot it?) – this photo by Tuhina Chopra is beautiful!

These bright photographs really elevate the mehendi to a whole other level! We absolutely adore all the colorful elements – these bright oranges and fuchsias make us so #HappyShappy! And check out the unique designs on the bride’s feet! Rather than covering her entire foot, there’s a single dancing peacock pluming on each foot. This wonderfully creative design has inspired lots of brides planning their mehendi in 2017!
